American Social History

American Social History

My field of study is the social history of the United States. Social history is a branch of history that studies the experiences of ordinary people in the past. In contrast to the top-down perspectives which provide the interpretations made by a state or a government, the bottom-up perspectives of ordinary people have enriched a history of various communities while showing diverse functions in the society by diverse people. This is what traditional political history has not been able to fully unveil.
“Diversity” is truly one of the most important keywords concerning American history. It is intriguing as well as exciting to realize that people outside of the mainstream of the United States have on many occasions changed society not only domestically within America but also internationally. The experiences of those people have even changed our values, thoughts and opinions. Social history tells us that we are connected to those people. Learn our role in our society while learning American history from the perspectives of ordinary people.
