Applied Linguistics

Applied Linguistics

The term “applied linguistics” has been used to exclusively refer to the application of linguistic theory in language teaching and learning. In the last decade, the term has begun to be used to refer more widely to any area of language-related study beyond linguistics. In order to develop its own theoretical models of language teaching and learning, applied linguistics uses information from sociology, psychology, anthropology, and statistics as well as from linguistics. They are now more likely to cover a very wide range of practical areas such as syllabus design, language planning, material development, and testing and evaluation.
