【学生のみなさんへ】

One student wrote "when it comes to listening part, it as less than speaking." The comment is correct. My assessment of our students is that they greatly need to increase their ability to respond verbally to questions and to quickly ask questions. Therefore, I manage the class so that students speak more than listen to a tape and mark questions on a piece of paper. Some students may not realize that they are also listening when engaged in conversations. I believe that students can easily practice listening outside of class with various free English-learning websites. Next semester, I will make a list of such websites and distribute the list to students. In the first semester, I found that the textbook was too easy for many students, so I chose a more difficult one for the second semester, and I chose sections that I thought would interest most students. This class also had a wide spectrum of abilities. I believe that I satisfied the majority of students, but I knew that a couple wanted to study more difficult material. I repeatedly told them that they could come and visit me in my office for more study and conversation practice, but they never did take advantage of my offer.
